AIMS:

To provide a clinician’s perspective on the challenge of using conventional functional appliances
including Twin Blocks on adolescent patients
To highlight Invisalign with mandibular advancement as an alternative to this approach
To provide a patient’s perspective of twin block therapy and Invisalign with mandibular advancement
Identify the various dental injuries that occur in children and young adults
Understand the importance of emergency management of the dental injury on the long-term prognosis of the tooth
Discuss the management of dental injuries using various clinical scenarios

OBJECTIVES:

To provide dentists with a recap of when functional appliance therapy is used
To provide dentists with an understanding of functional appliance mode of action
To provide dentists with the evidence behind a single or two phase approach to functional appliance therapy
To highlight recent developments in the field of functional appliances including the use of Invisalign with mandibular advancement
To provide dentists with a patient related outcome of the experience of the twin block appliance and Invisalign with mandibular advancement
To provide dentists with an understanding of the categorisation of dental injury
To reinforce the appropriate special tests to diagnose dental injury
To provide an evidence-based approach to the management of dental injury
To use clinical scenarios to reinforce the above
