Dealing with awkward patients

conference | 7th December 2022 18:30 | 2 CPD Hour(s) | Spaces Remaining: -10

EVENT FULL
At Bristol Dental Specialists our referral practice receives a large number of ‘demanding patients’ – it goes with the territory.  We are here to help colleagues, often breaking bad news and helping to defray otherwise potentially difficult situations.  Through the links we have forged with Jo Cullen, we would like to share some of the techniques employed by our team.. Jo is a very experienced psychologist who has been involved in teaching General Medical Practitioners and medical students how to deal with such patients, over many years.  Jo will combine her expertise with Adrian Watts. Adrian is a specialist in restorative dentistry and NHS consultant, he receives referrals in a number of settings in the South West and in his University appointment in Cardiff Dental School. In this meeting Jo and Adrian will share their experience of dealing with awkward patients.

Date: Wednesday 7th December 2022
Venue: Engineers' House, The Promenade, Clifton Down, Clifton, Avon, Bristol BS8 3NB
Time: Refreshments from 6.30pm.
CPD: 2 hours

There are many ways that we can influence how an initial consultation progresses the first time we meet a patient.  Patients may have had a bad dental experience, they might be in pain and are often fearful of the unknown. Jo Cullen will share some techniques to help recognise signs of anxiety and help us communicate better with patients, to make the beginning of the patient journey get off to a smooth start. This will be an interactive session, so please bring along any experiences of in-surgery interactions that might have gone awry to share with the other participants.

If you would like to learn more about how best to handle those challenging conversations with your patients, please join us for this interesting and informative event.
